Gold Rush Cure has a working board dedicated to growing our ability to serve the kids fighting cancer.

Our Board of Directors are compassionate advocates for kids battling cancer and seek to do everything possible to be a voice for those fighting.

All positions with Gold Rush Cure Foundation are currently all-volunteer.

Board of Directors

SANDY BARKER

CO-FOUNDER/PRESIDENT

Sandy Barker serves as the President and Co-Founder of Gold Rush Cure Foundation on a volunteer basis. She is a dental hygienist in Dana Point. Sandy and her husband Gary live in Laguna Niguel, California and have three children: Garrett (22), Kendall (19), and Christian (forever 14-1/2). Sandy has now made 20 trips to DC since Christian passed almost 10 years ago, and is honored to be a voice for children with cancer. Sandy also mentors and educates numerous families who are faced with having a child diagnosed with cancer. In her free time, Sandy loves going to baseball games, working out, traveling, and fun activities with family.

GARY BARKER

CO-FOUNDER/VICE-PRESIDENT

Gary Barker serves as the Vice President and Co-Founder of Gold Rush Cure Foundation on a volunteer basis. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and currently works at Northrop Grumman. Gary and his wife, Sandy, have been married for 28 years and they have three children. He has made several trips to Washington, D.C. to advocate for the childhood cancer cause. Gary currently lives in Laguna Niguel, California with his wife Sandy and enjoys baseball, trivia, working out, and getting together with friends and family.

LYNN TADLOCK

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Lynn Tadlock serves as Treasurer and Financial Advisor on a volunteer basis. Spending her first 13 years in public accounting and the manufacturing industry, she had the opportunity to join a local non-profit. Since, she is a perfect fit for her love of finance and her passion for serving others. Her nonprofit service includes HomeAid America, Gold Rush, and other charities. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from California Baptist University. She has been married to her husband Chris for 26 years and currently resides in Newport Beach CA.

KELLI SEELY

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Kelli Seely is Chief Marketing and Development Officer for Special Olympics International, Kelli oversees Special Olympics’ global campaigns, fundraising and engagement. Prior, Kelly served as President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Foundation from 2004-2008. She has held senior positions at impactful nonprofit organizations and seeks to help Gold Rush Cure continue to exceed goals. Kelli has one daughter and currently resides in Washington, D.C. Kelli and Sandy have been best friends since the 9th grade and are committed together to helping kids fighting cancer.

JEREMY BLILER

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Jeremy Bliler first volunteered in the oncology unit of Colorado Children’s Hospital and continued as a volunteer at Rady Children’s Hospital, and now at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Being closest to lymphoma patient Amanda Peebles who became an Angel in 2010, he made it his mission to help these patients. He assists Gold Rush Cure with their expansion and is now the chapter leader in Arizona. Jeremy runs a training development consulting firm out of Arizona. He’s made several advocacy trips to Washington, D.C. on behalf of children fighting cancer.

MARCI PADGETT

Marci Padgett is honored to help volunteer for the Gold Rush Cure Foundation. In 2014 her son, David, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He spent 3 ½ years in treatment at CHOC and has been in remission for over a year. During that time, Marci and David were introduced to Sandy and the Gold Rush Cure Foundation. David was an honored hero at the GRCF Gala in 2017. Now, both mom and son, make helping other newly diagnosed patients cope with the new reality of their lives a priority. They lend an ear to families who need it, and David visits other patients when possible. Marci and her husband live in Fullerton, CA with David and their younger son, Josh. They enjoy traveling, watching their boys play baseball and appreciating the time they have with a healthy family.

ALEX LUSTICK

Alex Lustick brings a wealth of corporate strategy and nonprofit leadership experience to Gold Rush Cure. Alex manages technology procurement functions for Fortune 500 companies. His non-profit advisory expertise focuses on strategic planning, reorganization, succession planning, technology development and marketing strategy. Alex lives in Brooklyn, New York and likes to ski and be out in nature, play tennis, practice yoga, cook, and read.

David Hyslop brings a wealth of healthcare and marketing experience to Gold Rush Cure, having worked directly with patient advocates on behalf of Fortune 500 Biotech and pharmaceutical companies. He was introduced to Gold Rush Cure by Sandy Barker while working for Gold Rush Nugget Bucket, as seen on ABC’s “Shark Tank.” David has been a featured alumnus for the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication and resides in Seattle. He has a passion for marketing and volunteering, and enjoys sports, comedy, and live music.

LORI HICKS

Lori Hicks has been a dedicated volunteer since the inception of Gold Rush Cure. Sandy and Lori have been friends since attending UCLA’s Dental Hygiene Program. With a heart to serve, Lori volunteered in various organizations including PTSA and the Model United Nations Booster Board. She loves the outdoors, running, walking or biking along the beach with her husband David. Lori and David have 3 children and live in Huntington Beach, CA. They are expecting their first granddaughter in June 2018.

LILY FREEDMAN

Lily comes to GRCF with 6 years of experience in the nonprofit research sector. Her work is dedicated to finding solutions to issues facing low-income and disadvantaged communities, through evaluating social programs, policies, and interventions. She has expertise in data analysis and partnering with community-based organizations to execute research projects. Lily lives in Brooklyn, NY, and enjoys reading good novels, cooking, hiking, and running.

MARIE MCGRORY

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Marie McGrory is a is a trained photojournalist who has worked for NPR and National Geographic, among others. She loves visual storytelling and building communities. During her time at National Geographic she helped to build their online photo community, Your Shot. She is also a pediatric and young adult cancer survivor. Grateful for this second and third go at living a full life, you can often find her on a trip or planning her next one. She is always grateful for a chance to give back to the cancer support community that has given her so much over her life.

GRACE ORTELERE

Grace brings experience in corporate strategy and marketing to GRCF. She currently works for MetLife and has lived in NYC, London and Dubai — she can't wait to see where she ends up next! Her previous non-profit experience has centered around driving inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In her free time, she tries to make a dent in reading all the books ever written, run long distances and travel to places that make her parents nervous.

Regina Sbraccia was an original Board Member, and opened our first Chapter in Phoenix, AZ in 2012. She has a unique ability to connect with and recruit volunteers including Lori Lawton, Jessica Edwards, Jen Simmons and employees from her work family at CCMC. The combined efforts of all have resulted in the great success of this chapter. As life often pulls us from the things we love, Regina stepped down as a Board member in 2016, welcomed Jeremy Bliler to head up the AZ Chapter, and stays involved as one of our top volunteers.

Gabrielle Schaefer is a founding member of the NYC chapter of Gold Rush Cure. She was introduced to the organization through her aunt who is both a a longtime contributor to GRC as well as a close friend to Sandy Barker. Gabrielle grew up alongside childhood cancer as her best friend's sister battled a rare form of Leukemia for 17 years. With a personal connection to this cause, and as an older sister, Gabriele has volunteered with children throughout her life and is excited to ensure that the city she calls home is never too daunting to bring a smile to patients nearby. A true "New Yorker," Gabrielle has lived in the city for ten years and is a Business Director at an advertising agency.

BROOKE CAVALLO

NYC CHAPTER CO-LEADER

Brooke is one of the NYC Chapter Leads residing in Brooklyn, NY. Her passion for raising awareness and funds for pediatric cancer patients started when she was a high school student volunteering at on the Oncology/Hematology Unit at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH. After growing close to a young woman who lost her battle against cancer, her passion to make a difference for kids and their families kicked off! She received her degree from The Ohio State University and specialized in Non-Profit Management. Over the years Brooke has worked and volunteered for a variety of organizations that support pediatric cancer including Nellie's Champions for Kids, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio, BuckeyeThon and more!
