Standing Bold for Kids: Gold Rush Cure Foundation Champions Advocacy this Awareness Month

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, volunteer members of the Gold Rush Cure Foundation’s operations team had the incredible privilege of traveling to Washington, D.C., to advance advocacy efforts for children battling cancer. Their trip included participation in three meaningful events that highlighted the power of community, policy, and progress in pediatric cancer research and treatment.

The team attended the 16th Annual Congressional Childhood Cancer Caucus Summit, a bipartisan event that brings together advocates, survivors, medical professionals, and lawmakers to push forward federal legislation and funding for childhood cancer research. This summit provided a crucial platform to raise awareness, share experiences, and advocate for policies that directly impact young fighters and their families. We were able to hear directly from members of Congress, young fighters, and those directly affected by this devastating disease that still affects nearly 15,000 children in the United States each year.

Next, the team joined the Golden Toast, an inspiring celebration launched by the Carson Leslie Foundation in 2012 to honor the childhood cancer community’s first collective legislative victory—the passage of the Creating Hope Act. This event is also a chance to honor some of the champions of the cause at the legislative level,  including Representative Mike McCaul, who has worked to advance funding for Childhood Cancer initiatives throughout his career in Congress.

Finally, the volunteers participated in the CAC2 Welcome Reception and Awareness Celebration, hosted by the Alliance for Childhood Cancer and the Coalition Against Childhood Cancer. This gathering allowed for meaningful networking and connection with other advocates working together to drive progress for pediatric cancer research and treatment.

Through these events, the Gold Rush Cure Foundation’s volunteers were able to contribute to a larger movement of childhood cancer advocacy—standing alongside survivors, families, and policymakers to support young fighters and champion life-changing progress. Childhood Cancer Awareness Month served as a powerful reminder that every voice, every action, and every advocate helps move the mission forward.

Gold Rush Cure Foundation is proud to continue amplifying awareness and advancing hope, treatment, and cures for children facing cancer.
